United States - Bangladesh trade ties moves to another level

The United States government informed Bangladesh that it would open a Foreign Commercial office in Bangladesh later this year. Keith Krach, who is U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment said this during a virtual meeting with high Bangladeshi officials.


As part of the plan to increase trade ties between the U.S. and Bangladesh, the U.S government would request private players to initiate investment plans in the pharmaceutics, agricultural, IT and energy sectors of Bangladesh. The U.S. will open a Foreign Commercial office in Dhaka


Salman F. Rahman, the Adviser for Private Industry and Investment to the PM of Bangladesh and a top businessman of the country was leading the Bangladesh team in the virtual meeting. Both sides agreed to take reform actions for improving the investment climate. Among other issues, Keith Krach and Salman F Rahman discussed innovative digital ecosystem and cross-border flow of information and data.


If implemented, this would be an important step in the foreign ties between Bangladesh and the U.S. considering China's aggressive presence in the region.
